I don't really look like a punk.

It's true. I don't. But how can you tell what someone's like, or what they like by the way they look?

While this is something I've thought about for some time, it's much better expressed by Sam Draisey. His 2021 album, Red vs Blue starts with this brilliant track, which I've included here. If you don't know his work, check it out. This is a young man who will change your perception on a number of issues.

We saw him at the Crooked Crow Bar in Leighton Buzzard and the crowd loved him and his set.

I Don't Really Look Like a Punk.

Well I don't have tattoos because I'm too indecisive
and my dad brought me up to hate spending money
and I've got curly hair so a mohawk wouldn't work out
and I do wear band shirts, but it's not for bands you've heard of
I don't drink, I dont smoke, I don't rage against my parents
Because generally they seem to have a similar sort of world view
I'm not sure they'd agree because they wouldn't like the stigma
But they'll have to admit that maybe they are punk too

Because if punk is anti-racist and punk is anti fascist
Punk doesn't discriminate by your gender or your means
If punk can blame the system and it's players for the outcomes
Then I don't know anyone more of a punk than me

It's not a virtue signal to say I'm not a dickhead
You can ask all my friends and most of them agree
and I know punk won't judge on your circumstance

or outcomes
but I'm happy to be judged on the company I keep
and I'll listen to anything at least once before I make

informed decisions
about whether it's the right thing for me
and my music taste is varied and eclectic but it's mine
and I don't need anyone to tell me who to be

Because if punk is anti-racist and punk is anti fascist
Punk doesn't discriminate by your gender or your means
If punk can blame the system and it's players for the outcomes
Then I don't know anyone more of a punk than me
